Discovering Christ the Redeemer
The Statue of Christ the Redeemer stands 98ft tall on the peak of the Corcovado Mountain and overlooks the city of Rio de Janeiro.Regarded as probably the tallest free standing statue in the world, it represents Jesus standing with outstretched arms over the city. Developed by the engineer Heitor da Silva Costa, he completed his incredible project after 10 years in 1931.
The figure stands as the most famed symbol in Brazil and bares faith to the countries huge Catholic population.
